Matcha, Your New BFF

ree

If you like green tea you will LOVE Matcha. Matcha tea is an easy way to add powerful health benefits to your everyday diet. One serving of matcha is equivalent to 10 cups of brewed green tea. Shocking! One serving of matcha packs a mega dose of antioxidants, exponentially more than any other superfood. Why does that matter? Because antioxidants are your body’s defense agents against infections and disease.

Additionally, Matcha:

  • Boots metabolism and burn calories

  • Detoxifies the body naturally

  • Provides more caffeine than coffee without the jitters

  • Improves mood, calms the mind and relaxes the body

  • Aids in concentration and memory

  • Is rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins

  • Provides selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium

  • Lowers LDL “bad” cholesterol and blood sugar

  • May prevent the growth of cancer cells.

Why is Matcha better than brewed green tea:

When you brew a cup of green tea the water can only extract a fraction of the nutrients that is trapped in the tea leaves. Matcha is made by grinding the young green tea leaves into a bright green powder that is then whisked with hot water. That way you receive all the health benefits in just one cup.

How do you make it?

There are a variety of ways to enjoy Matcha. Mix 1-2 teaspoons with 2oz of hot water and whisk back and forth until foamy. From there you can add more water and enjoy as a tea, add warm or cold milk of your choice for a latte. You can also add just a teaspoon of the powder in a smoothie, oatmeal, granola or yogurt.

I like Matcha Lattes. Somedays I like to pour a cup of Unsweetened Soy Milk and a teaspoon or agave in a mason jar, shake it up, and microwave it for 45 seconds. Then I shake it up again and pour it into my matcha. On warmer days I like to pour that over ice, and sometimes I like to add a little hint of vanilla extract.
